 Thank You: Thanks to everyone who helped with our Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes this year. We reached a total of 54 boxes, very happy about that! Each box might be the only gift a child ever receives. Summerside area collected over 1100 and the PEI total was 5235. We will be having pizza along with our sandwiches and sweets after church today as a thank you to everyone, especially for the kids help in coloring letters and packing boxes. Watch the bulletin for ideas each month to purchase for next year’s boxes, buying a few items each month is an affordable way to fill as many boxes to help put smiles on children’s faces and spread the good news about God.

 August is the best time of year for buying school supplies, please look at the flyers for great deals to add to the Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes. Some suggestions are pencils, erasers, colored pencils, pencil sharpeners, crayons, pens (in blue, black, red and green ink), and solar calculators. It is also a great time for end of summer clearance sales on toys such as jump ropes, marbles, soccer balls and other balls, pumps for balls, sunglasses etc. A great item to put in every shoe box is a good quality plain t-shirt. It is suggested not to buy ones with characters or words (which could be scary to kids in foreign countries and have no meaning), anything plain, stripes or pretty designs such as flowers. Old Navy still has a good selection for only $4, keep in mind they will pass the t-shirts to family members, so quality is key. I can order online anytime if you wish to donate some money in the next few weeks specifically for t-shirts. Please look for the Christmas box at the welcome center to bring in your shoe box items as you purchase them.

 We have about 4 months left before we start packing our Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes, so please be thinking about the boys and girls who will be receiving your box of gifts and love. Summer is the perfect time to shop for items to fill the boxes. Here are some suggestions to look for in July (some of these apply all summer long)....flip flops (Dollarama or Old Navy for $2),plain(no writing or characters of any kind) t-shirts (Dollarama has some for $3 and Old Navy has some for $4), soccer balls (of all sizes) and a pump to pump them up if they are deflated or for when they need air added (this happens after awhile). Hats (plain colored are best as they have no idea about princesses, cartoon characters etc), sunglasses, skipping ropes, balls of any size and other summer toys that are suitable to play with in dirt (no bubbles). There will soon be a decorated Christmas box on the welcome center table for you to add your items. If you prefer to bring cash/cheque to have someone purchase summer items for you, we would certainly appreciate it! Please give monetary donations to either Carol Ann or Garth Dawson and they will pass it along to Shelley to purchase items in the next few weeks.
